Open-Exchange Adds Push Email, Over-theAir Sync for Mobile

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Open-source groupware provider Open-Xchange (www.open-xchange.com) announced on Tuesday that it is now offering Open-Xchange OXtender for Business Mobility (www.open-xchange.com/en/mobility-solutions-en), which lets users receive push email and synchronization of contacts, calendar and other information from their Open-Xchange account to their smartphones.

The announcement follows the company’s recent release of Open-Xchange 6.12, which lets users integrate and merge their address books from Google Mail Gmail and Facebook into Open-Xchange.

Open-Xchange selected the Microsoft ActiveSync protocol for synchronization due to the wide range of supported handhelds and smartphones.

The solution lets Open-Xchange users set up any ActiveSync client on a mobile device and use mobile email and personal information manager functions without complex configuration or Microsoft Exchange Server.

The solution works with software clients for almost all other platforms including Symbian-based devices, Blackberry or Google Android.

“Most current solutions are limited either to specific smartphones or require costly proprietary server solutions,” says Rafael Laguna, CEO of Open-Xchange. “The OXtender for Business Mobility provides users with easy-to-use mobile messaging and collaboration capabilities on all the devices they use — anywhere, anytime, at a reasonable cost.”

OXtender for Business Mobility features all-inclusive device coverage including iPhone or Windows Mobile devices Version 6.x, Blackberry and Android clients for Exchange ActiveSync, end-to-end encrypted email and PIM data push, end-to-end encrypted over-the-air synchronization of personal contacts, calendar and tasks, end-to-end encryption over-the-air synchronization of global address book, and account management directly from the mobile device, single-sign-on management.

Open-Xchange’s collaboration solutions combines the complete set of PIM functionality, including email, calendaring, contacts and task management, with advanced groupware features such as Documail and Smart Document Sharing.

The new business mobility solution is available for Open-Xchange Server Edition and Open-Xchange Appliance Edition from Open-Xchange and its partners. For $355 per year, customers can purchase a license and software subscription for 25 users including updates, patches and security fixes.

Sofware subscriptions for additional users can be purchased at a cost of $14.22 in the first year while for the the subscription fee for following years is 25 percent of the first year.
