January 17, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Inktomi Corp. (inktomi.com), a developer of network

infrastructure software, announced an OEM relationship with Fujitsu

(fujitsu.com), a provider of Internet-focused information technology

solutions, to develop Internet server appliances designed to improve the

flow of content across distributed networks and enhance network quality of

service for end users.

Under terms of the deal, Fujitsu has embedded Inktomi Traffic Server network

cache and Traffic Server Media-IXT software into its new Primergy

StreamingCache server appliances for caching and streaming media delivery.

In addition, Fujitsu has selected Inktomi Traffic Server Engine to power its

Primergy WebAccelerator appliances.

The Fujitsu Primergy StreamingCache and Primergy WebAccelerator servers

provide enterprises, service providers, government agencies and educational

organizations with network edge technology to accelerate content

distribution, enhance network performance and reliability and improve

end-user response time, the company says.

"The growth of broadband and rich media creates the need for faster, more

intelligent networks," said Masahiro Kawakatsu, Group Senior vice president,

Personal Systems Business Group, Fujitsu. "Fujitsu's high-performance,

high-reliability Primergy servers in conjunction with Inktomi's

industry-leading network software, delivers a best-in-class solution for

content delivery."

Fujitsu's Primergy StreamingCache servers help reduce bandwidth costs by

storing content close to users for faster delivery of media content,

including videos-on-demand, streaming media applications and other Web

content. These new network cache and streaming media servers can also

provide load-balancing capabilities to optimize the flow of traffic across

networks and improve network performance and responsiveness. Based on the

Intel Architecture, Primergy StreamingCache servers provide Gigabit Ethernet

card support in a 1U rack-mount form factor.

The Fujitsu Primergy StreamingCache server appliances and Primergy

WebAccelerator SJ20/MJ20R are available immediately in Japan.
