Ocarina Drives Optimized CloudNAS

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — After extensive integration and testing by online storage optimization solutions provider Ocarina Networks (www.ocarinanetworks.com), Nirvanix (www.nirvanix.com) has announced its enterprise-class network-attached storage cloud software, CloudNAS, has been certified “Ocarina Optimized.”

According to Nirvanix’s Monday announcement, Nirvanix’s Ocarina Optimized CloudNAS offers organizations low cost, content-aware de-duplication and throughput gains because they are charged for less data transfer using Ocarina’s compression technology, which is the first content-aware optimization technology, according to the company, to reduce the files size of formats including MS Office documents, PDFs, ZIPs and rich media by up to 10 times.

Added to this cost saving is cloud storage’s already compelling price-for-performance benefit over in-house storage options, making CloudNAS a welcome component of a company’s overall cloud storage strategy. Also, Nirvanix’s software-only NAS solution lets organizations seamlessly integrate cloud storage into their existing storage processes within minutes, offering globally accessible, scalable storage.

“Cloud vendors provide dramatic cost and management advantages over in-house infrastructure by deploying industry-leading technologies,” Ocarina strategic markets and business development vice president Dave Withers said in a statement. “The addition of content aware optimization enables organizations to achieve up to a 10X cost advantage over the already breakthrough economics of cloud storage. With this certification, Nirvanix clearly takes the lead in offering cloud storage to the enterprise.”

Its collaboration with Ocarina is the latest example of how Nirvanix works with customers to find solutions to meet their needs, according Nirvanix director of product management Peter Pistek. “Certification of CloudNAS by Ocarina strengthens our ability to achieve this by adding best-in-class de-duplication and compression to our toolset,” Pistek said in a statement. “The combined offering results in a significant reduction in the storage asset footprint, further reducing storage costs.”
