(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The state of New York revealed that it is actively seeking to lease a new or existing 72,000-square-foot building in the Albany region to serve as a data center for the Office for Technology.
The state has allotted $99.5 million to finance the entire data center project, including the property acquisition, studies, appraisals, surveys, testing, environmental impact statements and design and construction management services.
The state Office of General Services is accepting proposals through August 21.
In its guidelines, the state specifies that the property must have 19,415 square foot of non-raised floor space for operational needs and 52,300 square feet of raised floor, with a power capacity of about 125 watts per square foot.
It will also require need some additional square footage to hold ancillary electrical and mechanical equipment, sufficient parking space near the facility for 50 vehicles, and room for a possible expansion of about 18,700 square feet of raised floor space.
The state is looking to sign a lease or purchase agreement for 15 to 25 years for a move-in date of January 1, 2011.

This is the second major data center project in the Western New York area to be announced in the past month.
Yahoo confirmed in June it will construct a 190,000-square-foot data center in the Lockport Industrial Park, following months of pitching the project.
