NTT to Establish Global IP-VPN POP in India and Enhance Service in New Zealand

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Japanese network management, security and IT solutions provider NTT Communications (www.ntt.com) plans to establish a point of presence for its global IP-VPN managed network service, Arcstar, in Chennai, India. It is also interconnecting Arcstar Global with an IP-VPN service in New Zealand operated by Telecom New Zealand (www.telecom.co.nz) to improve its global connectivity.

According to its Wednesday announcement, NTT has begun accepting applications for the service in both locations.

The new POP in southern India lets NTT offer high-quality IP-VPN services in the area surrounding this city, where Japanese and other multinational companies are increasingly establishing a business presence. NTT already offers POPs in Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi in cooperation with Tata Communications (www.tatacommunications.com), the world’s largest undersea cable operator and an emerging communications giant.

NTT’s expansion in India, follows other major investments into the a quickly growing IT infrastructure market in Asia. In March, NTT announced it would partner with Vietnam Posts & Telecommunications Group (www.vnpt.com.vn), the largest telecom in Vietnam, to open a Tier 3-equivalent premium data center in Hanoi, Vietnam. Also, earlier this year, Tata Communications announced a $430 million strategic investment plan in the Asia Pacific region, which included a new $180 million Singapore data center, the completion of the main segment of its TGN-Intra Asia Cable System, and developing the Tata Communications Exchange.

The interconnection of Arcstar Global IP-VPN with the IP-VPN service of Telecom New Zealand, the island nation’s largest telecom provider, will allow enterprise customers to enjoy seamless network communication with domestic and global offices. Previously, customers were required to use access lines from an NTT POP located outside of the country.

Arcstar Global IP-VPN is already available in 159 countries and regions, with major Internet service providers, and secure data centers in Asia, North America and Europe.
