(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Japanese telecommunications provider NTT Communications announced on Wednesday that it has acquired a 74 percent stake in Indian data center services provider Netmagic Solutions. The acquisition is subject to the approval of authorities in India, according to the press release.
NTT Com says the addition of Netmagic’s data center services and sites will expand its capability to provide cloud service to the Indian market.
Netmagic operates seven data centers in India, including facilities in Mumbai, Chennai, Noida and Bangalore. It provides colocation and managed hosting to more than 1,000 customers, not including the customers it provides ISP and cloud services to. Established in 1998, Netmagic employs about 500 people in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi.
“This alliance will help Netmagic to leverage NTT Com’s global network and data center footprint for customers. The partnership will also help us strengthen our growth plans in the Indian sub-continent and globally, while NTT Com’s global customers in India can benefit from Netmagic’s expertise and leadership position in the managed IT hosting and cloud services market,” Sharad Sanghi, founder and CEO of Netmagic Solutions said in a statement.
NTT Com says it will continue to focus its growth in Asia as demand for “one-stop ICT services” increases, including managed networks, data centers, servers and applications. It calls this strategy its “Vision 2015″ growth plan. The plan focuses on helping its customers expand their global operations and works to strengthen its competitive advantages in Asia and beyond.
Last week, NTT Com was named in the Leaders Quadrant in the latest Gartner Magic Quadrant for Asia-Pacific Network Service Providers report. The report researches and evaluates Asia-Pacific network service providers in terms of “completeness of vision” and “ability to execute,” according to the press release.
“This acquisition enhances our global status as the ICT partner of choice, including now in India, one of the key areas of our future growth,” Katsumi Nakata, senior vice president of NTT Communications said in a statement. “By leveraging the complementary strengths of both companies together with the continued leadership of Mr. Sharad Sanghi as CEO of Netmagic, we will accelerate enhancement of our global cloud services for the provision of high-quality ICT services.”
This year, NTT Com will launch the Asia Submarine-cable Express, a low-latency network system linking major Asian cities, and will open additional data centers in Singapore and Malaysia.
In October 2011, NTT Com acquired trans-Pacific cable network operator Pacific Crossing.
