NTT Com Boosts Japan-US Backbone Speed to 300Gbps

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Telecommunications provider NTT Communications (www.ntt.com) announced on Tuesday it has significantly increased the data transmission speed of its global IP network between the United States and Japan to 300Gbps.

Traffic between the US and Japan is some of the heaviest data volumes handled by carriers with global IP backbones, says the company.

The heavy traffic is not expected to subside anytime soon, so the increased capacity of NTT Com’s US–Japan route will allow the company to accomodate the growing demand for higher-capacity transmissions between the two countries.

In October, NTT Com purchased Pacific Crossing Limited, which operates the trans-Pacific undersea cable network PC-1.

The acquisition gave the company complete control of the 13,050 mile PC-1 trans-Pacific submarine cable, which provides high reliability and low latency between Japan and the US.

The use of broadband and video content continues to increase in popularity, leading to a tripling of NTT Com’s bandwidth in 2009 compared to 1997.

NTT Com says it will continue to enhance its global IP network for “high-quality, high-speed data transmission services” offered around-the-clock globally.
