NTT America Partners with TerraPass

January 30, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Telecommunications provider NTT America (nttamerica.com), a subsidiary of NTT Communications, recently announced that it has partnered with TerraPass (terrapass.com) to implement a new program designed to offset carbon dioxide emissions generated from the use of NTTA’s hosting services. Customers can opt in at the time of their initial purchase of NTTA services or it can be purchased as an add-on to existing services at any time.

Through its relationship with TerraPass, NTTA says it has calculated the estimated amount of annual power and resulting carbon pollution that its enterprise hosting and colocation services produce in a year. The fee charged for TerraPass carbon offsets is used by TerraPass to fund carbon reduction programs, which include wind farms, farm power generated from methane gas digesters and landfill gas capture.

“IT hardware and data centers are a surprising leading national contributor to carbon emissions,” says Vini Handler, NTT America VP of product management and marketing. “Through our partnership with TerraPass we are now able to offer our customers a simple and effective way to significantly shrink the carbon footprint of their enterprise hosting and colocation services.”

NTTA’s customer carbon offset program is one of several green initiatives being undertaken by NTTA in data centers within the US and globally by NTT Communications.

NTT America also recently partnered with LYNX Medical Systems to host its software on the NTTA enterprise hosting platform.
