(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Telecommunications provider NTT America (www.nttamerica.com) announced on Thursday it has appointed Michael Wheeler the company’s vice president of the global IP network business unit.
Wheeler will replace Kazuhiro Gomi who was recently named COO of NTT America. In his new role, Wheeler will lead the global IP network business unit for NTT America, including all areas of finance, engineering and customer relations.
Most recently, Wheeler was the vice president of sales and business development for the global IP network business unit.
He has 15 years of sales management and business development experience in the Internet and data communications industries.
“I look forward to leading a group that, during the last few years, has made such significant gains,” says Wheeler. “In 2008, NTT America saw more than 700 percent growth in the purchase of our dual-stack bandwidth. In addition, our overall network has continued expanding at 70 percent annually and exceeded 1tbps of private peering.”
Wheeler first took on a leadership role at NTT America in 2005 when the global IP network business was migrated into NTT America from Verio, which was acquired by NTT Communications in August 2000.
Before joining NTT America, Wheeler was part of Verio’s original start up team, where he led several different sales organizations.
He was also a principal at StreamGroup where he led the strategic alliance and business development for the firm’s consulting and business incubator practice.
He also served in a senior management role with Expotel, and was a co-founder of Cyber Mortgage, which was acquired by IndyMac Bank.
The company has also named Shuichi Ikeda vice president of sales and business development for the global IP network business unit.
In this role, he will lead the areas of direct sales, account management, indirect channel, sales engineering, marketing, and business development activities.
Most recently, Ikeda was the director of business development and sales strategy for the Arcstar global network services business unit of NTT America.
He has served in different marketing and management roles within NTT Communications since joining the company in 1992.
