NTT America Introduces VLink Ethernet Solution, Providing Multi-Location Layer 2 Ethernet

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — IP network services provider NTT America (www.nttamerica.com) has announced the latest evolution of its multi-location Layer 2 Virtual Private Network solution, enabling major content providers, ISPs and enterprises in the US to efficiently deliver content through major Internet network nodes and data centers located in key US cities.

According NTT America’s Thursday announcement, NTT America new “VLink” virtual point-to-point connection service operates over its parent company’s network the NTT Com Global IP Network, providing direct connectivity between multiple locations, as well as an alternative to point-to-point connections.

“As more and more companies look to the cloud for cost-effective network solutions, the delivery method for critical data is key,” NTT America customer solutions executive director Teri Francis said in a statement. “VLink reduces the need to manage disparate technology platforms and enables customers to deliver information in a more secure and efficient manner.”

As US companies move their internal IT services to cloud-based environments, VLink gives them a simple way to integrate WAN reach into existing Ethernet-based LANs without additional overhead costs and training.

With its Layer 2 capabilities, VLink can maintain a prioritized path on the network to carry data, voice, and video — all on the same physical link, offering more secure connectivity for companies to interconnect corporate Ethernet-based LANs or to migrate from private lines to an Internet-based solution without the perceived security risks associated with sending data over the Internet. It also gives companies the ability to connect to three or more points of presence in the US by leveraging the reach and reliability of the NTT Com Global Tier-1 IP Network.

With VLink, customers can combine their L2VPN and Internet access (IPv4 or dual-stack IPv4/IPv6) on the same physical port, reducing the number of required ports, connections and overhead.

The solution is available in three configurations, Direct, Plus, and Mesh, to best meet customer requirements. VLink Direct offers point-to-point architecture that links any two locations; VLink Plus connects a primary location with two or more other locations, which is useful for an environment where there’s a single headquarters and multiple satellite offices; VLink Mesh connects three or more locations to each other, establishing a fully connected model.

VLink allows for dedicated bandwidth from 100 Mbps to 10Gbps in 100 Mbps increments for flexible, which can be quickly upgraded with simple software changes and secure port-based connections.

NTT America has backed the VLink service with a Service Level Agreement guaranteeing it to be free of network outages 100 percent of the time.
