(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Nimsoft (www.nimsoft.com), the “unified monitoring” division of CA Technologies (www.ca.com), has launched a complete monitoring solution for private clouds based on the Vblock Infrastructure Packages, enabling end-to-end performance and availability monitoring of network, storage, compute and application layers.

According to Nimsoft’s Tuesday announcement, it is the first to deliver specific monitoring for Vblock Infrastructure Packages, which are the product of collaboration between Cisco, EMC and VMware. It is also able to be combined with other heterogeneous data center and cloud resources.

Cisco, EMC, and VMware formed the Virtual Computing Environment coalition in November 2009 to accelerate organizations’ ability to bolster business agility through greater IT infrastructure flexibility, and lower costs through virtualization and the transition to private cloud infrastructures. Vblock Infrastructure Packages are one of the results of this collaboration. Offering integrated cloud solutions packages, Vblock is designed to provide a well-integrated, low-risk way for service providers and enterprises to deploy clouds that leverage performance-optimized, certified solutions.

The Nimsoft Monitoring Solution further extends Vblock functionality, enabling service providers and enterprises to more quickly discover and address the root causes of issues that can impact critical IT services. Complete monitoring for Vblock is available as an option to the on-premise Nimsoft Monitoring Solution or as a Software-as-a-Service offering in the form of the recently released Nimsoft On Demand offering.

“Vblock is changing the face of the data center and – until now – no one has had a single answer for monitoring it,” Nimsoft chief executive officer Gary Read said in a statement. “Nimsoft is enabling companies to take full advantage of the power of Vblock-based private clouds today and thereby gain the considerable competitive advantages that result from a cost-efficient, responsive and reliable IT environment.”

More than 25 Vblock certified partners and solution providers – including Dimension Data, FusionStorm, L7, Long View Systems, Midwave, MSN Communications, MTI, and UNIS LUMIN – are actively using NMS.

NSM provides root-cause analysis for performance and availability problems anywhere across the entire Vblock stack and helps automatically optimize the allocation of Vblock resources. NSM is also aligned with the Vblock performance portability features and is able to adjust its monitoring with customers workloads. This portability inherent in the Nimsoft solution gives both enterprise customers and service providers unprecedented flexibility when it comes to building, hosting and managing cloud resources.

“By delivering a complete, integrated technology stack, the Vblock infrastructure is sure to gain increased market adoption,” 451Group (www.the451group.com) enterprise software senior analyst Dennis Callaghan stated. “Once deployed, an organization’s ability to monitor Vblock performance will play a critical role in the degree to which it is able to realize the value of its investment. Through its comprehensive unified monitoring coverage of the Vblock environment and current data center platforms, Nimsoft is poised to address a significant, and growing, market need.”

Vblock has been a popular platform for complementary services. Earlier this week, IT business services provider Orange Business Services (www.orange-business.com) launched Flexible 4 Business, a managed hosting solution based on Vblock packages.
