September 12, 2001 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Yesterday’s terrorist attacks caused major disruptions at Networld+Interop (interop.com), the networking and telecommunications trade show held at Atlanta’s World Congress Center, causing most attendees and many exhibitors leave the show early.
r

r

Although rganizers had expected 50,000 attendees at the show, by noon the
r

floor was virtually empty, according to InternetNews reports. The CNN
r

Center is across the street from the Georgia World Congress Center, and at
r

10 a.m. CNN closed the building to the public and dismissed any personnel
r

not working on stories directly related to the attacks.
r

r

Show organizers also halted all freight deliveries to the show. “We have
r

stopped all freight deliveries because of this,” Bill Miller, director of
r

administrative services for the center, told the Atlanta
r

Journal-Constitution Web site. “We are maintaining close communication with
r

the Atlanta Police Department and consistent communications with our
r

security officers.”
r

r

According to a release on Interop’s site, the keynote speech of Daniel
r

Warmenhoven, CEO, Network Appliance, has been rescheduled to 9:00 a.m.
r

Wednesday in the Sidney J. Marcus Auditorium. iCan SP will hold its keynote
r

presentation Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. as scheduled. However, Daniel Byrne,
r

Regional sales manager, will be replacing Nancy Li. Lunch will still be
r

served to all attendees.
r

r

The keynote speech of AT&T’s David W. Dorman, originally scheduled for
r

Wednesday at 9:00a.m., has been cancelled. The special event Showdown at the
r

Bandwith Corral, originally scheduled for 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday,
r

has been similarly been cancelled, as has CampusFest 4, originally scheduled
r

for 8:00 p.m.
r

r

The Best of Show Awards Ceremony, originally scheduled for Wednesday at 5:00
r

p.m., has been cancelled. Voting for the People’s Choice Award will continue
r

to take place at Novell Connecting Points during show hours. Winners will be
