September 12, 2001 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Yesterday’s terrorist attacks caused major disruptions at Networld+Interop (interop.com), the networking and telecommunications trade show held at Atlanta’s World Congress Center, causing most attendees and many exhibitors leave the show early.
r
r
Although rganizers had expected 50,000 attendees at the show, by noon the
r
floor was virtually empty, according to InternetNews reports. The CNN
r
Center is across the street from the Georgia World Congress Center, and at
r
10 a.m. CNN closed the building to the public and dismissed any personnel
r
not working on stories directly related to the attacks.
r
r
Show organizers also halted all freight deliveries to the show. “We have
r
stopped all freight deliveries because of this,” Bill Miller, director of
r
administrative services for the center, told the Atlanta
r
Journal-Constitution Web site. “We are maintaining close communication with
r
the Atlanta Police Department and consistent communications with our
r
security officers.”
