(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — NYCBSDCon 2010 (www.nycbsdcon.org), a two-day gathering of the BSD community will be held this weekend at New York’s at 41 Cooper Square in Downtown Manhattan.

According to organizers, the bi-annual NYCBSDCon 2010 event will be held at Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art (www.cooper.edu) on November 13 and 14. Founded in 1859 by industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper, Cooper Union offers public programs for the civic, cultural and practical enrichment of New York City, and isi situated between Greenwich Village and the East Village in downtown Manhattan.

The New York area BSD community will converge at this historic location to hear from a wide array of speakers on a variety of topics including IPv6, pfSense, PC-Sysinstall and LDAP.

Of particular note is Saturday’s “birds of a feather” session, “Creating an East Coast Mirror: FreeBSD at NYI,” in which NYI’s Phillip Koblence and FreeBSD’s George Neville-Neil will discuss what went into the mirror deployment at 999 Frontier, NYI’s 40,000 square foot data center in Bridgewater, NJ.

New York City-based, mission-critical data services provider NYI (www.nyi.net) has a long history of supporting open source projects, particularly the BSDs, and is providing key sponsorship for NYCBSDCon 2010. It has sponsored NYCBSDCon since its inception in 2005, and recently announcing that it now oversees the day-to-day hosting operations of the East Coast US mirror for the FreeBSD Foundation (www.freebsdfoundation.org), a deployment consisting of more than 23,000 pieces of software.

“NYI has been with us since the beginning,” NYCBSDCon 2010 organizer George Rosamond said in a statement. “Their unflagging enthusiasm, along with their operational precision and technical intelligence, have been invaluable to the growth of this community in the New York area. If ticket sales are any indication, we expect NYCBSDCon 2010 to be our most successful to-date.”

“NYCBSDCon is one of the most important events on our calendar,” NYI operations vice president Phillip Koblence said in a statement. “Not only is it an excellent opportunity to stay current with the latest developments in BSD, it also allows us to maintain direct, strategic ties with the thought-leaders of a community that has contributed so much to the advancement of open source software.”

In addition to presentations and networking opportunities, NYCBSDCon is also hosting two BSD Certification Associate exam sessions during lunch both Saturday and Sunday.

NYCBSDCon 2010 is open to the public. Regular registration, priced at $125 is available Friday until 6 p.m., and day-of registration is $145.
