New IBM Software Promises Smarter Security and Compliance Management

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Technology giant IBM (www.ibm.com) has released new software that is able to find possible compliance faults across thousands of PCs, servers, point-of-sale and virtualized devices around the world. The BigFix Unified Management Software Platform gives clients status reports via a single dashboard, and enables them to make the proper fixes across 500,000 machines in minutes.

In July, IBM announced it had entered into an agreement to acquire enterprise security provider BigFix in an effort to help organizations more intelligently secure enterprise IT systems by managing and automating security and compliance updates on thousands of computers globally.

According to IBM’s announcement this week, the new BigFix platform now provides built-in intelligence that identifies all of a company’s infrastructure and devices, then flags when devices are not in compliance with corporate IT standards. Even the security policies and system configurations of devices not continuously connected to the corporate network are visible to BigFix in real time.

The BigFix platform gives companies greater management over increasingly popular virtualized asset deployments, displaying both virtual and physical assets in a single view to help locate, manage and protect virtualized and physical systems.

To help optimize workflows and simplify the IT staff’s experience, the redesigned user interface now includes role-specific views so IT staff can view the status of IT assets according to key functional areas such as endpoint management, security, audit compliance, provisioning or IT operations.

IBM BigFix technology chief technology officer Amrit Williams said that IBM’s new security capabilities reinforce IBM’s ability to help companies secure and manage their IT assets – both physical and virtualized. “As organizations become increasingly more complex, virtualized and distributed, it’s critical for them to take proactive steps to secure and manage their IT environment in a consolidated and automated way,” Williams said. “With BigFix’s new virtualization and interface breakthroughs, IT staff can better manage and secure their IT environments.”
