(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Surveillance, clearinghouse, and directory services provider Neustar (www.neustar.biz) has launched a new free service that provides a comprehensive set of domain name system tools to help DNS administrators, website managers, and domain owners analyze and optimize their domain and DNS configurations.
According to Neustar’s announcement this week, UltraTools.com (www.ultratools.com), which is part of Neustar’s UltraDNS Internet Infrastructure Services portfolio, provides a comprehensive set of free DNS tools that can help site owners optimize their domain and DNS configurations and management.
“Given the complexity of DNS in today’s connected world, resolving name-resolution issues in a timely fashion is often an exercise of scrambling from one command-line tool to the next, and leveraging various online lookup interfaces to try to uncover the root cause of the problem,” Tier1 Research senior analyst Doug Toombs said in a statement. “With a respected history in DNS management, Neustar has brought a valuable ‘one-stop’ toolset to the market with UltraTools.”
UltraTools.com offers a Domain Health Report that includes more than 70 individual tests spanning nine key categories including Parent Zone, Nameserver, Start of Authority, MX Record, Mail Server, Web Server, Domain Record, DNSSEC, and IPv6 sub-reports. There is a unique sub-report for each category, providing further evaluation of the health of a domain.

In addition to the Domain Health Report, UltraTools.com also provides a robust collection of individual utilities, calculators, and DNS & IP lookup tools, all designed to help users manage their day-to-day tasks from a single, external website without having to go to a command-line prompt.
In the coming months, Neustar plans to add domain monitoring tools to Ultratools that would provide users with critical alerts about their domains.
It is also important to note that, to ensure the integrity of the service, UltraTools is operated outside of Neustar’s network so users will get neutral, unbiased test results across the board for all domains, including those managed by UltraDNS.
