October 8, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- NeuLevel (neulevel.biz), the operator of .biz registry, announced on Thursday that it will begin offering international domain names for the .BIZ Registry. The first non-English characters being introduced are in the German language. Registration opens on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. eastern time.
As the second largest market for .BIZ registrations, Germany can now register .biz domains with German characters a, o, and u with umlauts in their domain names. This is the first time non-English characters have been introduced into the .biz registry.
"We're excited to be able to offer the German-speaking community an opportunity to register domain names in their native language," says Richard Tindal, NeuLevel VP of registry services. "Germany represents the most logical market for the initial launch of IDNs."
German .biz domain names can facilitate companies that have failed to secure their desired domain name -- those that have existing, established brands striving to protect them, small and medium businesses seeking to differentiate themselves from other more cluttered and common top level domain spaces, and for those looking for valuable generic names.
