(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Digital optical networking systems provider Infinera (www.infinera.com) announced on Tuesday that it has opened its Russian headquarters in Moscow.
This announcement comes a week after Infinera opened its new office in Hong Kong.
According to the press release, Infinera Russia will be focus on marketing, sales operations and building relationships with local partners to expand its manufacturing capabilities in the region.
Infinera says this new entity will support telecom carriers and service providers in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States as it continues its global expansion.
An Infinera customer since 2008, Russian wholesale telecom carrier RETN recently upgraded its pan-European optical network with Infinera Line System. According to the press release, RETN’s network is one of the largest in Russia, reaching from Moscow to London and is directly connected to more than 800 international and domestic carriers.
“Russian carriers see the value of Infinera’s unique technology based on photonic integration,” Alexey Popov, general director for Infinera Russia said in a statement. “Launching this new entity in Moscow reaffirms our commitment to the region and to customers like RETN. We also believe that it will better enable carriers in this country to benefit from an Infinera Digital Optical Network.”
RETN deployed Infinera’s next generation line system to allow RETN to scale up to 8.0Tb/s per fiber and to deploy 40G and 100G wavelength without the need for additional upgrade. Infinera’s ILS upgrade to RETN’s network covers a route of more than 10,563 miles.
Recently, telecommunications provider KDDI America added a new subsidiary in Russia, KDDI Russia.
