Network I Opens UK Data Center

August 6, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — UK-based Network I (network-i.net) has announced it is in the final stages of opening its second datacentre in Slough, Berkshire, just outside of the London ring motorway.

According to the announcement Wednesday, the 10,000 square foot Slough center, along with its sister center also based west of London, will offer co-location services and a range of fully managed services.

Slough is an attractive location for businesses, according to Network I, because they can benefit from the IT infrastructure being outside of the hefty real estate costs of central London but they are also close enough to be accessible and only a few miles from Heathrow Airport.

In July, Savvis UK, a subsidiary of Savvis (savvis.net), was granted $69 million in financing over five years from Lombard North Central to build its data center also located in Slough, scheduled to open later this year.

In late July, California-based hosting provider DiscountASP.NET (discountasp.net) partnered with data center infrastructure services provider Equinix (equinix.com) to bring its new, London data center online as its first expansion into Europe.
