Through the acquisition, NetNation acquired approximately 1,000 hosting customers, 90 percent of which were shared hosting customers and 10 percent being dedicated hosting customers. NetNation said the newly acquired customers will be served out of its Internet data center facility in Vancouver.

Meanwhile, Cephren said its exit from the Web hosting market leaves it to focus on its core business of building data centers and office complexes in Canada.

“We’re pleased to have the opportunity to serve Cephren’s customers. They’ll find NetNation easy to work with and attentive to their needs,” said Jag Gillan, general manager and vice president of NetNation. “Cephren’s customers and all others who choose NetNation will enjoy the high level of service and support that have helped make NetNation Canada’s leader in Web hosting.”

According to Gillan, the acquisition of Cephren made sense because its offerings were very similar to that of NetNation. “We felt Cephren’s customer base was consistent with ours… making integration easier,” said Gillan.

NetNation has been looking to expand through acquisition since being acquired by Hostway. According to Gillan, NetNation is intent on expanding its presence in Toronto, a market that parent company Hostway is keen on penetrating. He added that the company continues to “look for acquisition opportunities in Toronto,” with a future eye towards entering the enterprise hosting market. Gillan said such a move “is on the radar screen,” but will likely require a physical presence.
