July 12, 2007 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Canadian Web hosting provider Netfirms (netfirms.com) announced on Tuesday that it has launched its Netfirms Green energy saving program.
Netfirms says its new program is a commitment to reduce the company’s environmental footprint by conserving energy in its data centers and corporate offices. The company is in the final stages of migrating itsĀ clustered server architecture and data center operations to a direct current power source using Rackable Systems DC power technology. The technology has already reduced Netfirms data center power consumption by 25 percent and by end of 2007 it plans to reduce power usage by 45 percent.
The company has also reduced energy consumption in its offices by minimizing decorative lighting and raising the air temperatures in its buildings. The corporate office is now a certified Go Green building by the national BOMA Go Green Environmental Certification program.
“Netfirms has always been environmentally responsible by participating in recycling programs and using environmentally sustainable resources and practices in our day to day operations. This new green program simply reinforces our ongoing commitment to the environment,” says Thomas Savundra, president of Netfirms.
Netfirms has also recently been recognized as one of Canada’s fastest growing companies by PROFIT: Your Guide to Business Success magazine.
