Netcraft: BT Most Reliable Hosting Site in September

October 7, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — British Telecom (bt.com) and DellHost were the most reliable Web hosting company sites in the month of September, according to research and analysis firm Netcraft.

Netcraft?s survey ranked reliability by the total number of failed requests, with measurements being taken from five different points.

A total of 53 Web hosting company sites were considered in the study.

Out of 2976 requests made to the British Telecom site, only one failed; while for DellHost, only two requests failed.

British Telecom topping the rankings in September was the first time a site running on the Windows platform had been ranked number one, Netcraft reported.

European sites accounted for four out of the top ten most reliable sites despite four out of five measurement points originating from within the United States.

The survey also found that three of the top six sites were running on Windows platforms. Seven out of the top thirteen ran on FreeBSD.

Komplex.net, uswest.net, about.com and Interland.com placed third through sixth in the rankings. Above.net, xlink.net, schlund.de and ipower.net rounded out the top ten.
