According to Netcraft, out of Autozone’s visible servers, only one ? firefly.autozone.com – is running on Linux. The server, Netcraft says, appears to be the front end of an intranet connecting its retail stores that includes more than 3,000 Linux machines, according to a 1999 agreement with Red Hat. The majority of its servers, including the one that runs its corporate Web site, use the Solaris platform. An additional internal site runs on Windows 2000.

The SCO Group claims that UNIX code found in the Linux kernel violates its intellectual property rights. The company has threatened to take legal action against end-users and on Tuesday followed through on the threat, filing its first lawsuit against an individual Linux user. On Wednesday, SCO revealed the identity of the defendant as Autozone and announced that it was also filing suit against DaimlerChrylser.
