NESIC Chooses Vyatta for the Virtual Foundation of its Consolidated Network Services Offering

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Japanese network system integrator NEC Networks & System Integration Corporation (www.nesic.co.jp/english/) has chosen virtual routing and security software from open networking and network virtualization provider Vyatta (www.vyatta.com) as the foundation network level of its Consolidated Network Services.

According to its Tuesday announcement, the CNS combines high-performance x86 servers, a VMware-based virtualization platform, and network virtual appliances from Vyatta, Citrix and Checkpoint to deliver best-of-breed networking solutions on a single virtual server.

“With nearly every enterprise around the world under pressure to reduce costs, our Consolidated Network Services introduces a new approach that ensures long-term scalability and eliminates the need to buy multiple, single-purpose hardware devices,” NESIC senior vice president and board member Yasuo Iijima said in a statement. “Vyatta’s unique software-based network operating system, delivered as optimized virtual machines, is a key component of this offering.”

Vyatta’s software-based, open-source, network operating system provides a complete enterprise-class routing and security feature set capable of scaling from DSL to 20Gbps performance. Thousands of physical and virtual infrastructures around the world, from small enterprise to Fortune 500, are connected and protected by Vyatta software and appliances.

CNS is able to offer a high-performance, low-cost, consolidated network option for enterprise branch deployments. Embracing technology shifts including the emergence of multi-core x86 processing power and virtualization, as well as using Vyatta’s Virtual Firewall, Routing and VPN, and other vendor solutions for load-balancing and additional security, NESIC is poised to deliver a new generation of networking solutions.

“Virtualization of the corporate network offers organizations tremendous cost, space and time benefits compared to multiple discrete hardware boxes,” Vyatta marketing vice president Tom McCafferty stated. “NESIC is a provider of world-class system integration, service and support, and we’re very pleased to be providing core networking functionality for a new class of product that we believe will become the new standard approach to corporate networking.”

Earlier this year, Vyatta launched the Vyatta Service Provider Partner Licensing program, promising to allow service providers of all types and sizes to use its technologies on a monthly, subscription-based pricing model to more closely align with their day-to-day business.
