(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Internet service provider Neotel (www.neotel.co.za) opened on Wednesday a new data center in Midrand, Johannesburg, as well as announced plans to open a second one in Cape Town in a few months, according to a report by MyBroadband.
According to Stefano Mattiello, chief sales and customer service officer at Neotel, the company will continue to add new services.
Mattiello says the new data center signals “just one more step in the direction of managed services.”
The Neotel data center is built using high energy efficient technologies and improved cooling techniques that allow for the highest data center cooling density.
This is especially critical in South Africa after the region experienced electricity shortages last year, and in light of the recent proposal to increase energy costs.
This latest data center adds to a series of other recent data centers to open in South Africa.
Vodacom Business opened a data center earlier this year, which promises to provide customers with tier 4 quality hosting services.
In February, Teraco opened its first vendor neutral data center in Cape Town, and will soon open another one in Johannesburg.
