NaviSite Provides Secure Enterprise Hosting For Harrods Department Store

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — World-famous London department store Harrods (www.harrods.com) has chosen enterprise hosting and application management services provider NaviSite (www.navisite.com) to provide a PCI-compliant web hosting solution.

According to NaviSite’s Monday announcement, Harrods needed an enterprise hosting solution that met all of its security needs for storing customer cardholder data, specifically maintaining Harrods’ adherence to the stringent requirements of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. At the same time, Harrods wanted a solution that reduced its overall IT costs. After a rigorous selection process, Harrods chose NaviSite for its hosting experience; its ability to engineer a solution that met Harrods’ specific requirements; and its cloud enabled enterprise hosting vision and strategy.

“After a thorough evaluation process, we determined that the NaviSite solution best addressed our technical requirements and financial objectives,” Harrods chief technology officer David Llamas said in a statement. “NaviSite’s adherence to best business processes made it easy to work together to develop and implement a hosting solution that maintained our existing PCI compliance at an extremely attractive price point. We were also impressed with NaviSite’s vision for enterprise-class cloud-enabled hosting.”

Interestingly, over the weekend, Egyptian businessman Mohamed al-Fayed reneged on his promise not to sell Harrods, when he accepted an offer from Qatar Holding, which pledged to keep investing in the business and to safeguard employee pensions.

NaviSite implemented an enterprise hosting service featuring leading edge VMware virtualization technology, providing Harrods with a flexible and scalable solution. Security is enforced by a combination of best-in-breed firewalls at the network edge, intrusion detection systems, application firewalling to protect Internet facing traffic, VLAN segregation, and two-factor authentication for all administrative users. Harrods is also currently evaluating NaviSite as a potential hosting partner for a much wider cloud-enabled solution as part of Harrods next technology infrastructure refresh cycle.

“NaviSite has extensive experience designing and managing enterprise hosting solutions that address key regulatory issues, such as PCI compliance,” NaviSite president R. Brooks Borcherding said in a statement. “We are excited that Harrods, a revered institution with a world famous reputation for style and quality, selected us to help with their hosting requirements.”

Last week, NaviSite joined the Software and Information Industry Association (www.siia.net) in an effort to help foster the continued growth of software-as-a-service and to advance software transition from on-premise to cloud deployments.
