June 13, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Domain marketplace NameMedia (namemedia.com) announced on Thursday that its Afternic (afternic.com) marketplace has been selected as the exclusive expiry auction partner by domain registrar Tucows (tucows.com).
Tucows is now offering thousands of daily expired domains for auction on Afternic (afternic.com) that the public can bid on and purchase.
Last week, Register.com and SnapNames renewed a similar partnership where SnapNames is exclusively offering previously unavailable domain names registered with Register.com on its auction website.
The partnership will bring in an additional 100,000 or more, premium domains from Tucows each month to Afternic inventory, further enhancing the selection of domain options for Afternic’s small business customer base.
Since there is a considerable demand for domain names that are already registered, NameMedia says the Afternic Domain Listing Service offers an “efficient and comprehensive trading platform” for both buyers and sellers of premium domains.
The aftermarket currently offers millions of premium domains for sale to buyers and sellers around the world and claims it offers the highest domain sales market share in the industry.
“This was an easy decision to make. NameMedia’s domain marketplace has established itself as the industry’s leading venue for the sale of premium domains,” says Bill Sweetman, GM of Tucows Domain Portfolio. “NameMedia brings to the table a wealth of domain sales experience, a global SMB targeted customer base, personalized customer service and a track record of proven success”.
Tucows has become one of the main registrars who have chosen Afternic as their exclusive auction platform for expiry domains. Through a global network of over 9,000 service providers, the company provides millions of email boxes and manages over eight million domains.
The domain registrar announced in February that it holds over 150,000 domain names in its private domain name portfolio, including 39,000 surnames, 22,000 brandable names and 88,000 direct navigation names.
