October 23, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Mobile website creation tool MobiSiteGalore (www.mobisitegalore.mobi) which is the first product of its kind to work entirely on a mobile phone has been named “Most Innovative Enterprise Mobile Internet Application” runner-up at the Mobile Internet World 2008 conference and exhibition in Boston.
MobiSiteGalore is the latest software from India-based developer Akmin Technologies (www.akmin.com), which has previously offered site building and content management tools including SiteGalore (www.SiteGalore.com) and Editlet (www.Editlet.com). According to its Wednesday announcement, MobiSiteGalore is the first Web site creation tool designed for cell phones.
While obviously not geared toward the professional Web design market, it may prove enticing for emerging markets where cell phones are the dominant mode of connection to the Internet. The World Wide Web Consortium’s Mobile Web Initiative (www.w3.org/Mobile/) has for the several years been making “browsing the Web from mobile devices a reality” though supporting projects and developing best practices. According to a report from The Economist, the availability of high speed mobile data networks and increasingly-affordable web-enabled phones will help bridge the “Digital Divide” increasing peoples’ access to the Internet and offer opportunities for businesses to ride the wave of adoption.
With MobiSiteGalore, the minimum that users need to build a mobile website is a mobile phone with a basic Internet connection. The program can also be used with a laptop or PC as well, but the most innovative part is that mobiSiteGalore does not need an expensive, high-end phone to work and there is no software or plug-in to download.
“When 3 billion mobile phone users in the world get the power to create mobile websites using just their mobile phone, it is just a matter of time before the number of mobile websites are going to far exceed the number of PC websites,” MobiSiteGalore chief executive officer S. Prashanth said in a statement. “The mobile web revolution is now all set to unfold and touch the lives of millions of people around the world.”
Akmins lets service providers license MobiSiteGalore to their customer base in their own brand name from a range of pricing models.
