(WEB HOST INDSUTRY REVIEW) — Data center services provider Equinix (www.equinix.com) announced on Thursday that CDN provider Cotendo (www.cotendo.com) has quadrupled its customer base with the help of its platform.
According to the press release, Cotendo joined the Equinix platform in 2009 and has leveraged the Equinix International Business Exchange data centers to grow its customer base from 100 customers to more than 400.
This announcement comes a few months after Cotendo secured a $17 million private funding round and launched its mobile acceleration suite.
Cotendo offers an integrated suite of web and mobile acceleration services from thirty global PoPs.
Equinix says its ecosystem of partners and customers provides an ideal environment to ensure that content navigates a variety of networks and applications. Recently, Equinix introduced a new set of data center services for customers looking for larger footprints.
According to the press release, Cotendo colocates its servers in the same IBXs as the mobile carriers that carry the content. The physical security features in IBXs allow Contendo to reach a growing market of ecommerce providers as well.
“The standardization and consistency of the Equinix IBX data centers, and the connections they offer our target customers enable us to grow quickly and continue delivering high quality content with the highest performance that our customers demand,” Michael Kuperman, vice president of operations at Cotendo said in a statement. “Our job is to make mobile applications work as fast as possible and with Platform Equinix, we can rest assured knowing we can do that well, every time.”
Cotendo says it leverages Global Roaming Exchange Peering at Equinix which is offered on an Ethernet-based switching platform for exchange of mobile Internet traffic.
“As consumers and corporations alike continue to rely on mobile and web applications for business or entertainment purposes, the ability to quickly and securely deliver this content becomes increasingly crucial to our customers’ success,” Chris Sharp, general manager of content and digital media at Equinix said in a statement. “We are thrilled to help a company like Cotendo, along with our other partners in the digital content space, achieve success in mobile content delivery.”
