(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Content delivery network solutions provider Mirror Image Internet (www.mirror-image.com) has added video on demand and live H.264 media streaming for the Apple iPhone, making Mirror Image the only CDN to combine multi-protocol streaming capabilities of this kind from a single media source.
According to its Wednesday announcement, Mirror Image allows content owners to stream H.264 video straight to any Apple iPhone or iPod touch with OS 3.0 without the need for complex or custom configuration. Mirror Image sales vice president James Hart said that Mirror Image’s solution provides “point, stream and deliver” mobile video delivery to any device.
“Content owners can no longer afford to back burner their entrance into the mobile space; content delivery to a variety of devices including the iPhone is now a must-have for truly successful multi-platform campaigns,” Hart said in a statement. “With multi-protocol streaming, businesses can leverage their existing investment in web content and repackage video for iPhone delivery with a single media file; no need for special processing, costly custom builds or multiple file storage.”
The Mirror Image multi-protocol streaming service works with a broad range of standard H.264 encoders and file content so that users don’t need to employ specialized encoders or specially pre-formatted content for iPhone consumption.
Mirror Image uses Wowza Media Server 2 Advanced (www.wowzamedia.com/advanced/index.html) technology to process and stream content over HTTP to the iPhone, as well as over other protocols to mobile devices and desktop clients like Flash, enabling businesses to streamline and simplify their encoding workflows and eliminate the burden of storing and managing files in multiple client-specific formats.
Mirror Image’s streaming capabilities are currently being used by Internet TV broadcast network TrueFire TV (www.truefire.com), which comprises 12 musician-centric stations, to deliver multi-protocol video streams. Since 1991, TrueFire and its faculty of more than 450 top artists and educators have produced thousands of interactive music lessons for blues, rock, jazz, country and popular music.
TrueFire chief executive officer Brad Wendkos said he is excited to offer TrueFire broadcasts to iPhone users, providing them a fantastic viewing experience. “Utilizing Mirror Image’s streaming services to deliver our music lessons to the iPhone is an affordable and viable way for us to maximize our investment in digital content,” Wendkos said in a statement.
