(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Content delivery solutions provider Mirror Image Internet (www.mirror-image.com) has partnered with streaming media software developer Wowza Media Systems (www.wowzamedia.com) to use its high-performance multi-protocol streaming application for delivering live and on-demand video from any codec, over any protocol to any player or device including the iPhone.
Wowza Media Server Pro Advanced is a high-performance, extensible and a fully interactive multi-protocol media server for live and on-demand streaming, chat, and recording, according to Mirror Image’s Monday announcement at the Streaming Media East (www.streamingmedia.com) conference in New York City. Wowza lets companies use streaming protocols that work with Microsoft’s Silverlight, Apple’s iPhone, RTMP for Flash, RTSP/RTP for QuickTime, and MPEG-TS for IPTV set-top boxes.
“Wowza gives us the ability to support our customers’ streaming needs in a number of ways, regardless of budget, bandwidth, protocol, or future content plans,” Mirror Image sales and marketing vice president James G. Hart said in a statement. “Reliability, scalability, and exceptional support are must-haves for any CDN to effectively manage content for client sites; Wowza enables us to deliver on all three and in doing so puts us in a great position to service current and future customers’ requirements.”
Wowza Media Systems chief executive officer and co-founder David Stubenvoll said that since Wowza Media Server Pro’s launch in February 2007, it has become adopted by more than 20,000 worldwide licensees because of its unique streaming capabilities. “[I]t gives service providers the ability to stream to the web, mobile and living room screens from a unified industrial-strength platform,” Stubenvoll said in a statement.
Mirror Image has already deployed Wowza Media Server Pro Unlimited software network-wide for Flash streaming and will be offering multi-protocol streaming with Wowza Media Server Pro Advanced in the second half of 2009.
Mirror Image has provided streaming for high-profile events as the NCAA play-offs and the Presidential Inauguration.
