Mirantis OpenStack Training and Certification Programs Hit 1,000 Trainee Milestone

Since launching its vendor-agnostic OpenStack training and certification program in December 2013, Mirantis has seen more than 1,000 IT staff across 200 organizations complete its programs in the popular open-source cloud software.

Mirantis’ Certification for OpenStack (MCA-100) is targeted at systems administrators and cloud operators, and is becoming more crucial given that more employees skilled in cloud services are needed to meet the enormous rate of cloud adoption. Also, web hosts like GoDaddy are hiring engineers specifically to work on and with OpenStack.

Mirantis isn’t the only company offering OpenStack training. Rackspace also expanded its OpenStack training program in September 2013. And as demand for OpenStack experts grows, so will the need to train and re-train IT to help deliver OpenStack solutions.

Mirantis offers optional onsite OpenStack Bootcamp courses spanning two or three days to help prepare individuals for MCA-100. Three-day bootcamps are most common, and cost $1,995, and a two-day bootcamp costs $1,495. For a limited time, the exam is free for those who complete the training. The MCA-100 exam normally costs $200.

In its vendor-agnostic training, however, Mirantis doesn’t try to push a specific technology, but rather ensure that students are able to configure an OpenStack environment that spans various host operating systems (such as RHEL, Ubuntu and CentOS), virtualization technologies (KVM, vSphere), storage back-ends (Ceph, NetApp, EMC) and network topologies.

Companies who have used Mirantis training span many industries and include the likes of Accenture, AT&T, Booz Allen, British Telecom, Charles Schwab, Expedia, Orange, SAP and JP Morgan.

“I found the MCA-100 exam compared favorably to rigorous certifications like VCP and CISSP,” VMWare technology specialist Ramiro Salas said. Salas recently completed his MCA-100 certification. “The technological independence that Mirantis professes is accurately reflected on the exam and I highly recommend the course.”

Through a partnership with test development and delivery company Kryterion, the MCA-100 exam is offered at 700 Kryterion locations in over 100 countries. Professionals can also be certified at home or at work using Kryterion online proctoring.
