MidPhase Deploys Authentify Security

December 7, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Internet identity company Authentify (authentify.com) announced on Tuesday that Web hosting provider midPhase Services, Inc. (midphase.com) has selected Authentify to prevent credit card fraud and implement automated online order confirmation. Authentify has helped midPhase Services reduce credit card charge backs and stop criminals from setting up email accounts to launch Phishing attacks.

Authentify says its service defeats fraudulent transactions by placing an automated telephone call to a user when they attempt to purchase Web hosting or email accounts on the midPhase Web site using a credit card. To complete the transaction, a user is required to speak confirmation details that are simultaneously displayed in their Web browser.

“Since we started using Authentify, we have virtually eliminated credit card fraud and spamming and phishing activities,” says Dan Ushman, president and co-founder of midPhase Services. “Criminals are simply not willing to provide their real phone number, much less answer the call phone necessary to validate the transaction. Authentify is a powerful deterrent.”
