(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Microsoft revealed on Thursday its container-powered cloud services vision, according to a report by Data Center Knowledge.

In a speech delivered at the University of Washington, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer revealed that “when it comes to the cloud, we are all in.”

The message is being relayed Friday in an email to all Microsoft employees, as well in a major ad campaign that Microsoft is launching.

In his presentation, Ballmer mostly emphasized the end-user experience of cloud computing services.

He also brought with him an example of the next-generation containers that company data center GM Kevin Timmons described Thursday in a talk in New York.

The container is one of the most recent prototypes in a series of designs for Microsoft’s containers, entitled IT-PAC, which stands for pre-assembled component.

The company will likely refine the design as it continues researching new locations for its next data center.

“It includes the equivalent of about 10,000 servers,” said Ballmer. “It’s a cool, next-generation concept. We used to have to stick fire hoses into these things to cool them down. (With this) next generation technology, you can put a garden hose in to one of these things to cool down.”

In a question-and-answer period with students, Ballmer hinted that Microsoft may eventually offer a container equipped with Azure technology as a product for on-site installation.

A full transcript and the streaming video of Ballmer’s presentation is offered on Microsoft’s News center website.
