Microsoft Joins Linux Foundation as Platinum Member

Microsoft has joined the Linux Foundation as a top level platinum member, a year after Microsoft joined forces with Red Hat to support enterprise Linux workloads on Microsoft Azure.

As part of the deal, Microsoft gets one director to represent the company on the board of the Linux Foundation, and for that position it has appointed 17-year Microsoft veteran John Gossman, who for the past four years has been the lead architect on Microsoft Azure.

“Currently, a third of all server instances on Azure are some flavor of Linux, a number that’s believed to be rising,” according to Christine Hall at Windows IT Pro.
