Microsoft IIS Gets Protection From Zeus

November 20, 2001 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Zeus Technology Limited (zeus.com), a provider of Web server software and solutions, announced that its customers will now be able
r

to evaluate the Zeus Secure Web Serving Solution.
r

r

The Secure Web Serving Solution is designed to sit in front of Microsoft’s
r

IIS Web server, identifying and discarding incoming attempts to exploit
r

vulnerabilities in customers’ IIS servers or other internal infrastructure
r

without the need for wholesale platform migration. Based on the Zeus Web
r

Server, the solution demonstrates many of the anti-denial-of-service
r

features that will be released in the next major release of the Zeus Web
r

Server.
r

r

These features include parsing incoming requests and blocking discreet URLs
r

described by a set of rules. The rule set can be modified or updated
r

dynamically, so that modifying the rules in anticipation of a new attack
r

requires no downtime, or even a server restart.
r

r

As part of the development of anti-denial-of-service technology, the Zeus
r

Secure Web Serving Solution allows customers to build an “HTTP Firewall”; a
r

gatekeeper that protects existing infrastructure from attacks from the
r

Internet.
r

r

“The Zeus Secure Web Serving Solution will enable organisations that have
r

been plagued by Code-Red and Nimda to quickly secure their infrastructure
r

against these attacks whilst maintaining their investment in Microsoft
r

technology,” said Zeus CEO John Paterson.
r

r

The Zeus Secure Web Serving Solution will initially be available to
r

customers who wish to evaluate or deploy the solution as part of a preview
r

programme. Full availability is expected in Q1, 2002.
