Microsoft, HP Offer VAR Hosting

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Helping value-added resellers operate on a software-plus-services business model, Microsoft (www.microsoft.com) and Hewlett-Packard (www.hp.com) have launched a joint initiative that lets VARs offer “private label” Microsoft solutions hosted by its managed service provider partners.

According to Microsoft’s Wednesday announcement, it has partnered with HP to equip VARs with the toolset and guidance to let VARs generate new revenue streams by offering their small and medium-sized business customers a greater choice of solution delivery methods. Now, VARs can offer a full suite of data center virtualization products and tools to create a “dynamic data center,” providing automated, optimized services on demand.

According to the announcement, HP is providing special HP BladeSystem, HP ProLiant and HP StorageWorks configurations for Windows-based workloads such as Hosted Microsoft Exchange Server, Hosted Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Windows SharePoint Services, to make it easier for partners to plan for and deploy hosted Web services for VARs.

John Zanni from Microsoft

Microsoft’s John Zannisaid that the partnership with HP helps its partners deliver software plus services via VARs.

“This initiative recognizes the strength of HP’s and Microsoft’s strong partner ecosystem and expands it to give our VARs a scalable and profitable path to delivering partner-hosted software plus services,” said John Zanni, Microsoft worldwide software plus services industry in the Communications Sector general manager.

Using these optimized hosted services, VARs can take on strategic role in helping customers reduce their IT total cost of ownership with a variety of hosted technologies by being able to sell both HP’s and Microsoft’s virtualized infrastructures and hosted services, as the two vendors expand and extend their cloud-based computing solutions.
