(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Microsoft (www.microsoft.com) announced on Wednesday it has named Satya Nadella the new president of Microsoft’s server and tools business, who will replace Bob Muglia.
With 19 years of experience at Microsoft, Nadella most recently served as an engineer in the company’s Online Services business.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said the company needed to bring new leadership to the cloud division, worth a reported $15 billion, in order to help it dominate the cloud market.
In his new position, Nadella will lead the overall business and technical vision, strategy, operations, engineering and marketing for Microsoft’s $15 billion business.
The cloud division develops Microsoft infrastructure software, developer tools and cloud platform, including products such as Windows Server, SQL Server, Visual Studio, System Center and the Windows Azure Platform.
Nadella and his team will lead Microsoft’s enterprise transformation into the cloud and provide the technology roadmap and vision for the future of business computing.
Additionally, the division will help customers and partners move to the cloud platform by providing the solutions, services and tools they need to succeed.
Prior to his promotion, Nadella served as senior vice president of R&D for the Online Services Division, where he led the technical vision and engineering of some of the largest web services and cloud infrastructure on the planet.
Before joining Microsoft, Nadella was a member of the technology staff at Sun Microsystems.
