Microsoft Still on Top, Port 80 Says

April 30, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- According to Port 80 Software's (port80software.com) April Web server survey, Microsoft IIS continues to hold over half of the Web server market among Fortune 1000 firms.
Port 80's survey results say 54.4 percent of the sites surveyed ran on Microsoft IIS, representing a 1 percent increase over last month's survey. The percentage of sites running Apache was 19.8 percent, up 0.3 percent from March. Netscape ran on 15.2 percent of the sites while the remaining 10.6 percent ran Lotus Domino, Weblogic, Websphere, IBM, SunOne, Zeus and others.
Microsoft IIS 6 continued to gain steadily, with a 0.5 percent one-month gain in following two consecutive months which saw gains of 0.7 and 0.8 percent respectively. Microsoft IIS 6 now holds a 4.1 percent total market share.
Port 80 software said its April Web server survey reflected the new Fortune 1000 list, which had a turnover of about five percent.
