October 5, 2001 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Metromedia Fiber Network Communications Inc. (mmfn.com)
r
announced yesterday that Microsoft Corp.’s MSN network of Internet services
r
is occupying 30 percent of the co-location space in MFN’s Internet Service
r
Exchange facility in Seattle.
r
r
The acquisition of co-location space in Seattle expands the existing
r
relationship between the two companies. MSN also has co-location space in
r
MFN’s San Jose ISX, uses MFN’s Global IP Network, and leases MFN’s
r
metropolitan dark fiber. In addition, MSN has an agreement with MFN’s newly
r
acquired SiteSmith subsidiary for on-site support of Microsoft equipment
r
located at MFN’s data centers.
r
r
MSN is also a participant in PAIX.Net, Inc., another MFN subsidiary and a
r
leading neutral Internet exchange. PAIX.Net, Inc. serves as a primary
r
Internet peering hub and enables the exponential growth of the Internet
r
through its geographically dispersed facilities.
r
r
“MSN’s experience working with the first-tier co-location facilities of
r
Metromedia Fiber Network as well as SiteSmith and PAIX has been positive.
r
Our decision to expand the relationship to include their Seattle facility
r
made sense, given our complementary strategies in delivering an end-to-end
r
service solution,” said Rick Rice, group program manager at MSN.
