Memset Leads Netcraft's March Most Reliable Host Sites

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Internet research and security firm Netcraft (www.netcraft.com) reported last Thursday that Memset had the most reliable hosting company site in March 2010.

Netcraft reported last month that NaviSite had the most reliable hosting company site in February.

The UK cloud provider offers dedicated physical and virtual servers, all-inclusive managed hosting and cloud-computing services out of its two data centers near Reading, UK. For its own website, Memset uses Apache on Linux.

Managed hosting provider DataPipe had the second most reliable website results in March and responded to all but four of Netcraft’s requests.

DataPipe, which uses Apache on FreeBSD to run their own site, has over 1,000 customers in seven data centers across the United States, Europe and China.

Rounding out the top ten are iWeb Technologies, ReliableServers.com, INetU, SwishMail, www.singlehop.com, Hosting4Less, Kattare Internet Services, and www.dinahosting.com.

Six of the web hosts in the top ten were running Linux, three were operating FreeBSD, and one web host’s operating system could not be identified.

The full table can be viewed on Netcraft’s website here.

It is important to note that there is a correlation between a web host’s website availability and its network availability, even though these two things are not one and the same.

In other words, the uptime of a web hosting provider’s website is a good indication of what customers can expect from the provider’s own hosting service.
