Maine Hosting Acquires Local Telco’s Web Hosting Customers

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Maine Hosting Solutions (www.mainehost.com) a relatively small hosting provider based, appropriately, in Bath, Maine, announced a deal this week, in which it would acquire the web hosting division of local telecommunications provider Great Works Internet (www.gwi.net).

According to a report on local business news website Mainebiz, Maine Hosting Solutions will take over hosting duties for customers Tuesday at noon. The story describes the number of customers as “600-1,200,” though it doesn’t offer a specific reason for the vague number range.

The financial details of the deal were not revealed.

Maine Hosting Solutions was already providing the back-end for the hosting solutions GWI was offering to new customers, so it went on to acquire the existing customer business as a kind of logical extension of the existing relationship.

“We were already a strategic partner with GWI, and all new business customers were being hosted on our network, so it just became a better fit for the existing customers,” Maine Hosting Solutions president Daniel Eosco told Mainebiz.

Customer data will also be moved from GWI’s data center to new servers at Maine Hosting Solutions’ data center in Bruswick, Maine. GWI’s website describes the company’s products as including colocation, which may not be included in the customers being moved to Maine Hosting Solutions.

According to Mainebiz, customers being moved from GWI will have access to Maine Hosting Solutions’ broader set of service offerings, which include ecommerce and email marketing tools, as well as content management, blogging and website building software.

Maine Hosting Solutions was founded in the mid-nineties, associated with the creation of a collection of online guides related to various local services in Maine, such as MaineGuides (www.maineguides.com), MaineRestaurants (www.mainerestaurants.com) and Maine-Webcams (www.maine-webcams.com).
