Alexander Picker of Red Hat delivers a Tuesday afternoon session
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — In one of the first set of afternoon sessions Tuesday at WorldHostingDays, Christopher Benecke of Magirus and Alexander Picker of Red Hat set out to describe the “data center of the future,” by introducing their OpenV solution, an IT infrastructure bundle that includes technology from EMC and Cisco, along with Red Hat’s Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization solution.
This post is going to be a little light on content, just as a result of the fact that the session was a little heavy on technical specs. All things you can easily look up at the company’s website, www.open-v3.com.
Part of describing the package involved a general introduction to RHEV, which was delivered by Picker.
According to Picker, RHEV is based on KVM technology, with some of its primary features being its scalability and high performance, relative to bare metal.
Another of the selling points for the solution was the fact that it is delivered in a single format, with no variations based on certain workloads.
In a technical overview of the OpenV product, Benecke says it includes servers from Cisco with a choice of configurations, all of which include the latest Intel chipsets. They all include networking hardware from Cisco and storage hardware from EMC.
The product is available in entry, midsize and high level configurations, which vary according to capacity.
The benefits, he says, are much more than just having the technology put together in a box.
He says Magirus service begins with consulting, workshops and testing. The company also guarantees its solutions for a period following deployment. It also offers a range of installation services.
