Macquarie Telecom to Invest in Tasmanian Network with Government Help

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Enabled by the Government’s initiative to build a National Broadband Network with the island state, Australian carrier Macquarie Telecom (www.macquarietelecom.com) is investing in a new data network in Tasmania involving the construction of a seven kilometer fiber optic link between Aurora Energy’s (www.auroraenergy.com.au) Cambridge data center and Midway Point.

In what Tasmania Premier David Bartlett described as the “Autobahn of Communications networks” at the Thursday announcement in Hobart, the completed broadband network will make the state the most connected place on the planet by 2014, according to Bartlett.

“The government’s decision to invest in the National Broadband Network has enabled us to make this new investment in Tasmania,” Macquarie Telecom chief executive officer David Tudehope said. “The complementary decision last week by the federal government to create regulatory certainty around wholesale and retail competition, levels the playing field with Telstra and makes this investment possible.”

This investment promises to bring new data network services and lower prices to Tasmanian business customers.

Established in 1992 following the deregulation of the telecom industry in Australia, Macquarie Telecom provides tailored business communications solutions, which include voice, data, mobile and hosting services. Its dedicated managed hosting and security facility, the Intellicentre, is certified to the highest levels including ISO 27001 and DSD Gateway security standards.
