Macquarie Hosts Social Network

January 31, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Macquarie Hosting (macquarietelecom.com/hosting/), a division of Macquarie Telecom, announced on Thursday it has signed a three year agreement to host Habbo (habbo.com.au), a teen social networking website accessed by more than 2.9 million Australian registered users.

Macquarie Hosting will provide Habbo with a high-availability, fully-managed hosting solution, enabling the website to increase network speeds and improve the user experience for its Australian members. Habbo performed a thorough assessment of different hosting providers before choosing Macquarie Hosting for its proven experience and its ability to provide around the clock, low latency availability of Web 2.0 social networking applications.

Habbo’s Australian website and critical applications for the Australian market were previously hosted in the US, leading to latency problems and local customer discontent. By on-shoring with Macquarie Hosting, Habbo ensures 100 percent uptime and availability, which is essential to the social networking site’s ability to entertain and secure its Australian members.

“Social networking communities are booming, fuelled by faster broadband access technologies that allow content-rich sites to be downloaded and viewed quickly,” says Aidan Tudehope, managing director of hosting for Macquarie Telecom. “The local popularity of Habbo’s teen networking community demonstrates the enormous potential for marketers, advertisers and corporations to use this innovative and cost effective medium to communicate with the teen demographic.”

Macquarie announced last month it partnered with Sun Microsystems as its preferred server supplier in an effort to reduce the energy usage in its data center and become more green.
