(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Macquarie Hosting (www.macquarietelecom.com/hosting) has signed a $1.5 million two year deal with market surveillance technology provider SMARTS Group (www.smartsgroup.com) to host its financial market monitoring software for the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (www.asic.gov.au), Australia’s corporate, markets and financial services regulator.
The agreement follows the federal government’s decision in 2009 to assign responsibility for market surveillance to ASIC. Last month, ASIC announced it was using the SMARTS Group system for financial markets monitoring. The SMARTS Integrity platform detects prohibited trading behaviour including market manipulation and insider trading. With the switchover due in Q3 2010, Macquarie Hosting was able to meet ASIC’s timeframe.
“Macquarie Hosting was able to successfully prove to the SMARTS Group that it could meet accredited government security requirements, provide end-to-end audit capabilities and assurance of business continuity” SMARTS Group chief executive officer Andreas Furche said in a statement. Hosted on VMware vSphere4 with a production environment of more than 50 virtual servers, Macquarie Hosting ensured SMARTS Group had its test site up and running within a week and a half of signing the contract. The private cloud testing environment enabled SMARTS Group to test its software while its full production environment was being built.
As part of its agreement announced Monday, Macquarie hosting, a division of Macquarie Telecom, will provide an end-to-end, full dual site, DSD and PCI-compliant hosting service to ASIC through SMARTS Group. The real-time dual sites will be hosted within Macquarie Hosting’s government approved secure data centers.
Macquarie Telecom hosting managing director Aidan Tudehope noted that SMARTS Group selected Macquarie Hosting for its expertise in managed server hosting for mission critical applications. “The quality of our offering ensures we provide the highest level of security certification meeting strict government including ASIC requirements,” he said in a statement. Macquarie Telecom is an expert in this area, and meets the rigorous and ever changing requirements of DSD Accreditation to their full certification.”
The SMARTS Integrity Platform is an integrated system that is installed at exchanges, trading venues and market regulators worldwide to monitor orders, trades and quotes, identifying market violations including market manipulation and insider trading. The platform takes a real-time data feed directly from the relevant trading engine, and processes it in real-time, automatically detecting anomalies and producing alerts.
