(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The owner of India-based software firm LxLabs (www.lxlabs.com), developers of virtualization application HyperVM, was found dead in his Bangalore home on Monday.
Thirty-two-year-old K T Ligesh was found hanged, the morning after a late night drinking session.
According to a report by The Times of India, Ligesh was distraught over the loss of a recent contract, as well as dealing with the suicides by hanging of his sister and mother in 2004.
The suspected suicide follows the recent exploitation of a critical vulnerability found in LxLabs’s HyperVM, which led to hackers destroying 100,000 websites–about half of the sites hosted by UK web hosting provider Vaserv.
The web host said it was attacked Sunday evening by zero-day exploit in version 2.0.7992 of HyperVM.
Researchers at security firm Milw0rm said that LxLabs’ web hosting platform Kloxo, formerly called Lxadmin, contains 24 security vulnerabilities and exploits.
These flaws include SQL injection vulnerabilities and others that allow hackers gain access to files hosted on a vulnerable system.
Milw0rm warned on Thursday that Klaxo version 5.75 and possibly other versions are affected by the flaws.
LxLabs, which offers low-cost hosting, recently said HyperVM manages more than 30,000 virtualized private servers, while more than 8,000 servers use Kloxo.
