(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Logicworks announced on Thursday that it has launched infiniCloud PowerCluster, a cloud service designed for large-scale cloud computing customers. Logicworks says PowerCluster combines the infiniCloud public cloud service with private cloud resources to create a dedicated grid of compute nodes in a Private Availability Zone.

“Large-scale consumers of commodity cloud services like Amazon Web Services have realized that what appears to be a cost-effective solution at first becomes very expensive at scale with steep learning curves and frustrating ongoing operating requirements,” Kenneth Ziegler, president and chief operating officer, Logicworks said in a statement. “We developed PowerCluster to provide the business flexibility these customers expect without sacrificing the economies of scale that they deserve at their level of spend.”

Logicworks will provide a direct connection to EC2 and S3 via Equinix and AboveNet for customers who choose to maintain certain functions at AWS, according to the press release. However, Logicworks claims that its bulk cloud computing rates save 40 percent for a typical large-scale Amazon EC2 customer.

Logicworks says that by offering a bulk private cloud package that reserves server resources for a single client, its PowerCluster customers will benefit on both price and performance. PowerCluster also prevents vendor lock-in associated with proprietary public cloud software tools.

According to the press release, PowerCluster customers will have access to Logicwork’s monitoring and management tools. PowerCluster also includes full customer support with a 100 percent uptime guarantee.

PowerCluster creates a Private Availability Zone ideal for SaaS applications, digital media or applications with compliant hosting requirements such as PCI or HIPPA.

In June, Logicworks named George Kerns CEO.
