January 25, 2005 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Internet exchange LINX (linx.net) and data center operator Redbus Interhouse (interhouse.net) announced on Tuesday that network service providers are now able to connect directly from any of Redbus’s seven facilities in Europe to LINX switches housed in Redbus’s facility in London, England, a move the companies say will help network service providers supply faster Internet connections for users across Europe.
According to the companies, more than half the world’s Internet routes are accessible from LINX, which currently handles up to 95 percent of Internet traffic in the UK with peak traffic flows at 70 GB of data per second. Redbus’s seven European data center facilities are based in London, Milan, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Paris.
Network service providers will be required to meet the technical and management standards of LINX membership, a process Redbus will handle for NSPs.
“NSPs are reflecting the demands of their customers for fast and reliable Internet connections. By working with Redbus we are able to help deliver this across the continent,” says Vanessa Evans, sales and marketing manager for LINX. “This alliance is helping to fulfill industry demand to integrate access to peering connections and colocation facilities and to unify multiple vendors, so that NSPs can benefit from single payment options and contractual terms.”
