(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Dedicated hosting provider Limestone Networks (www.limestonenetworks.com) announced on Tuesday it is offering full server management through an Android-based application on the new Google G1 mobile phone.

“The app gives our customers secure access through our API using their G1 phone, and is free to Limestone customers,” says Gary Kendall, CEO of Limestone Networks. “Basically, it lets them use all the features of our proprietary API, which they now use on their desktop and laptop computers.”

Now Limestone Networks customers with Internet access on their mobile G1 phone can view and manage all their servers and accounts.

Users can perform a range of server management tasks, such as power servers up and down, retrieve bandwidth stats and graphs, activate services, review and pay open invoices, and update trouble tickets.

Though Limestone Networks says it is the first to offer this kind of functionality, we recently heard from SingleHop that the company released on March 27th its own Android-based mobile portal, LEAP mobile.

The web interface lets SingleHop customers maintain their servers and perform a range of functions on the Google G1 mobile phone.

Limestone’s server management interface can be accessed on the Google phone by opening the Rockware application, which is named after the name of its web counterpart that customers use to manage their accounts at Limestone.

From the main menu, users can select from servers, billing, support, or settings, which each category offering a range of options and actions.

With an interface comparable to the iPhone, as well as its compatibility with Android’s open source platform, the Google G1 phone is used by many programmers and network technicians.

Kendall attibutes these benefits of the Google G1 phone as Limestone’s decision to move into into mobile server management.
