January 29, 2007 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Content delivery network provider Limelight Networks (llnw.com) announced on Monday it is providing the rich media delivery infrastructure for Stardoll (stardoll.com) a Web site devoted to fashion and celebrities.
Limelight says that as the exclusive CDN for Stardoll, the company is delivering more than three billion image files each month, with daily averages often exceeding 100 million images delivered globally per day.
Stardoll provides an online environment where site visitors can dress up, make up and accessorize over 400 virtual celebrity dolls, each with its own unique wardrobe. In addition, Stardoll says it provides a safe place for children to meet online with old friends and meet new ones from around the globe.
“The digital lifestyle enables rich and diverse online experiences, going beyond the vast fan bases for digital video, audio and games, as the success of Stardoll shows,” says George Meek, Limelight Networks’ VP of Europe. “Limelight’s content delivery network is well-suited to the needs of a heavily graphics-driven Web site like Stardoll, by providing the scalability and reliability of service that allows Stardoll to reach massive audiences globally.”
Limelight Networks announced last week that online video broadcaster Metacafe has selected Limelight Networks as its exclusive content delivery network.
